Scottish producer Lockah’s debut EP, When U Stop Feeling Like a Weirdo & Become a Threat, positions him as one of the more promising new Mad Decent artists in recent memory. Out via the label’s weekly free release project, Jeffree’s, Threat winds though staples of big room hip-hop as told by UK dance producers—horns befitting a king’s entrance, modular synths and fuck with me vocal samples—with surprising grace and a great sense of flow. Lockah works heavy sounds without them feeling too heavy-handed. Pictureplane steps in for a remix assist on “The Sour Drink from the Ocean.”
