DKY005 Keyboard Kid 206 - The Transition EP
I always keep tabs on what the Donky dudes are doing (and I’ve picked up just about everything they’ve put out as far as I’m aware) and this banger from Seattle’s Keyboard Kid 206 (apparently the number’s an inexplicable reference to famously lacklustre Peugeot hatchback) keeps the standard high. It’s good to see the Brighton-based crew extending their reach outside the UK once again, as per their last release from Moscow-based 813. I first checked the preview clip in a rush and wasn’t blown away by the harsh, plodding intro to EP opener ‘WelcomeX’. However, having had a chance to properly listen I’ve since realised that every song has something to offer and the entire release seems to build up to the hyperactive melody of closing track ‘LongLiveSwag’, perpetrated by overblown & overlapping rave synth arpeggios. Get familiar with this lot if you aren’t already!
